The facts
Melin (Irvine, California; owned by Archipelago Companies, the OluKai parent) is the rare premium brand that answers the origin question in plain text on its own site: designed in California, produced in Vietnam and China. Credit for that.
The customs detail adds nuance. Through 12 August 2026, every hat bill of lading shows China as country of origin, and the lead supplier on those filings also supplies New Era; the Vietnam-origin records so far are accessories, starting late 2025. Read precisely: Vietnam diversification appears to have begun with accessories, with core headwear still China-made. We do not claim Melin moved production — the brand’s statement and the records are both quoted as they stand.
Melin’s craft claims are real — a named Italian mill partnership for materials, and a 32-point inspection — and its pricing reflects the positioning.
