Where are Cap America hats made?
Two clean answers. The knit beanies: Missouri and Minnesota, under the exactly-worded claim “Made in the USA of imported yarn.” Every structured cap: imported, currently Vietnam-first with China declining. No US-made structured cap exists in the line — and the reason why is the most useful thing this page can teach you.
The facts
Cap America (Fredericktown, Missouri; family-owned, second generation as of January 2026) runs what trade press describes as the largest circular-knitting operation in North America, expanded by acquiring Wear-A-Knit of Cloquet, Minnesota in 2022. Its domestic line is real manufacturing — knitting, not decorating — and its claim is textbook FTC-qualified wording, repeated verbatim across independent distributors.
The imported line shows Vietnam as the current primary origin in customs records, with Chinese suppliers’ activity tapering.

What it means for you
For structured caps, “where” is an Asia question for every brand on this list. The variable you control is whether you buy that Asian production through layers, or direct — from 144 pieces sublimated, under your own label.
The US-made knits ($4.50–$8.10) overlap and often undercut the imported caps ($3.92–$13.80).
The pricing lesson
Domestic circular knitting of an acrylic beanie is genuinely cost-competitive; domestic cut-and-sew of a structured cap is not — which is precisely why the US line stops at beanies. That is the honest economics of headwear, demonstrated inside one catalogue.
An observed pattern
Domestic SKUs carry TK, RK or SK prefixes and imported ones carry i or X. This is an observed pattern rather than a stated convention, with no counterexamples found.
Origin is not one answer — it is per style.
Three very different things hide behind an American flag on a hat listing.
Cut, sewn or knitted in the US from US inputs. Vanishingly rare in headwear.
Genuinely made in the US from foreign materials, and the claim says so — the FTC requires the qualifier. Cap America's knit beanies are the example.
The cap arrives finished from Asia and the US value-add is embroidery, patches or kitting. Most "American" promo headwear lives here — and an honest listing says "decorated in the USA", not "made".
